New approaches in research assessment
Research assessment is undergoing significant change worldwide. Aspects such as quality, openness, diversity, and societal relevance are gaining increasing importance in the evaluation of researchers and research performance. Within this project, we are developing tools to support the practical implementation of research assessment reform at universities and higher education institutions in Germany.
On this website you will find, among other things,

Practice-oriented resources

Guidelines and manuals for implementing new assessment approaches

Background
Reforming research assessment
Current research assessment is largely dominated by bibliometric and other quantitative indicators. However, this can create false incentives and fails to adequately capture the diversity of scholarly contributions. The Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment (ARRA) aims to advance a fundamental reform of research evaluation at the institutional level. While several German universities have already signed ARRA, several questions remain:
-
How can fair and qualitative research assessment be implemented in practice?
-
Which measures are most suitable for different institutions?
-
How can acceptance and support within the academic community be ensured?
"If we set high standards for the conduct of science, surely we should set equally high standards for assessing its quality."
Adler, Ewing, & Taylor, 2008, S. 3
